The book is written at the 3rd grade reading level and the story revolves around the legendary lifeguard, surfer, musician and Polynesian voyager Edward Ryon Makuahanai “Eddie” Aikau.

The author, Jonathan A. Ibanez, a student at St. Anthony’s Junior-Senior High School in Wailuku, Mau'i was the winner of the 2010 annual Eddie Aikau Essay Contest.
